Abstract

Spirituality is a multifaceted phenomenon that challenges traditional approaches to study and understanding. Behavior Analysis, as a discipline focused on the investigating of behavior, language and human cognition, provides a perspective that can enrich the study of spiritual experiences. This paper aims to deepen discussion on the self-as-context and its relationship with self-awareness, spirituality, and well-being, which can be fostered in therapeutic contexts. First, the relationships between self-awareness, symbolic behavior and spirituality are explored. Afterwards, clinical practices related to self-awareness and spirituality are described. Finally, the implications of a behavioral analytical approach to spirituality in therapeutic settings are discussed.
